Grant Winner!
May 2026: Winner of a mini-grant provided by SHSU's center for academic community engagement.
"Congratulations to Katelyn Blankenburg on receiving an Academic Community Engagement Mini-Grant to bring heartbeat recording technology to the SHSU Music Therapy Program!

Heartbeat recordings are a powerful tool in music therapy, used to support connection, reflection, emotional expression, and legacy-centered care. In hospice and end-of-life settings, music therapists can weave a patient's heartbeat into personalized music or recordings that families return to for comfort, remembrance, and a continued sense of closeness long after a loved one is gone.

Thanks to this grant, our students will get to use this technology throughout their coursework and practicum experiences, gaining hands-on training in innovative, evidence-informed clinical practice and deepening what's possible in our program."
